What is a
LifeGroup?
A LifeGroup is a small group of people who meet together in homes to
learn about Christian living and to build close relationships within
the church. Optimal size of a group is 12 and LifeGroups meet
together on various nights throughout the week.
Why are
LifeGroups important at Light & Life Christian Church?
There are two main reasons LLCC includes LifeGroups in its ministry.
The first is that as a church grows it becomes impossible for paid
staff members to effectively meet all of the needs of the
entire church. The second reason, and really the primary reason, is
that the Bible suggests that it is the responsibility of all followers
of Jesus to minister to each other. In other words,
Christians helping one another along the journey is Christ's plan for
the church.
In the book of Acts,
Luke records the tremendous growth of the first church in Jerusalem.
Small group meetings in homes were the foundation of the early church.
Acts 5:42 tells
us that the people met "in the temple courts" (large group worship) and
"from house to house" (small group fellowship). Jesus did much of his
ministry in homes (Matthew 8:14,15; Mark 2:1-5; Mark
2:15-17; Luke 8:51-56). Early Christians continued to meet in homes for
fellowship, study and discipleship (Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:19;
Colossians 4:15; Hebrews 10:25).
Why should I
join a LifeGroup?
To understand the Bible and Christianity better. You can ask questions,
participate in discussions, and hear others share their insights and
illustrations of the biblical truths they are trying to
grasp. As groups gather to encourage one another through the process of
applying the teachings of the Bible to their lives, Christ followers
can be more transparent with the challenges and joys of
life.
To provide
support and care for each other.
Over 50 times in the New Testament the phrase "one another" is used to
describe our relationship to other believers. We are instructed to love
one another, pray for one another, encourage one
another, bear one another's burdens and build up one another.
To begin to
feel like a part of God's family.
Building authentic relationships is a key focus of LifeGroups.
Confidentiality, honesty and acceptance are core values in a LifeGroup.
To allow prayer
to become more meaningful to you.
There are many promises in the Bible related to the power of group
prayer. In praying together with a few others, we are drawn together to
practice and experience the power of prayer.
To handle
stress and pressure better.
LifeGroups provide excellent support in times of crisis, change and
stress. You'll have a sense of security and stability knowing there are
people who really care about you.
LifeGroups are
the primary context for discipleship, fellowship, and caring at LLCC.
LifeGroups are a great way to build lifelong relationships, learn more
about the Bible, and grow stronger spiritually.
All
this happens in LifeGroups!
